Bossy little girls
We were accosted by a bossy little girl at the bookstore yesterday. Bossy little girls are a scourge. How do they get so darned bossy?

Identity, cranky day
I found out a whole slew of family secrets today... weird!
On a different note, E. and I had an awful, cranky, yuk-filled day today. And it was a cold, grey Nov. day. Yuk all around.

Misc., cuteness
Today was E.'s first ballet recital; so cute!
She was very sweet in encouraging another little girl who was shy about joining in.
She has gotten into referring to me by my first name. She'll call me Mommy to my face, but if she's talking about me she's as likely to say "L." as she is "my Mommy." It's kind of funny and odd at the same time.
I found a company here that offers delivery of a box of organic produce each week, for a not-outrageous price. We start this week; I hope it all works out! It's frustrating going from store to store trying to find good things.

Gas and drama
E. now thinks there's nothing funnier than what she calls 'gassing'. If she can 'gas' me with a direct hit, it apparently is double the hilarity...
She says some adult phrases now that sound really funny coming out of her little mouth in her 3 y.o. voice. I can't think of any offhand, but some are just like prefacing a sentence with "Actually...". She mimics adult tones too, which makes it even funnier.
Somewhere she got the idea that when kids are upset they run into their rooms and throw themselves on the bed, sometimes slamming the door. It's very tragic and dramatic. It very much seems like mimicry; I don't know where she saw something like that though.

Sick E.
Poor E., up all night sick and vomiting. And today was a heavy teaching day for me, complete with 3 hr. exam. She had to come to my morning class, poor thing. And then in the afternoon she got bored and wanted to talk to people on the phone, but nobody's home on a weekday afternoon.
She's gotten into numbers lately, counting everything. It's very sweet.

O Canada
Oh, funny Cdn accent. I can do the 'sorry' now, with the more pronounced o. But I'll never be able to say 'pasta' like they do, with the really flat a.

White must be right
Now we're watching the movie Tinkerbell. More of the omnipresent whiteness, with a little heteronormativity thrown in... but other than that the messages are nice enough. Although I don't think E. 'gets' the tinker message (Tinkerbell is kind of a fix-it shop person); she is absorbing the action scenes.
We're still getting over being sick! This is 3.5 weeks for her, 2 for me. She got the H1N1 shot last week, so hopefully we at least won't get that.
ETA: I was wrong, E. got the tinker scenes. She went around for a while after the movie, arranging her toys in piles, saying she was tinkering. Tee hee.

Literal thinking
I saw E. crouched by her CD player this morning. I asked her what she was doing and she said "The music said to jump on in."
awwwww.
She's still got a hacking cough and I've been sick for about 4 nights straight. I'm good enough in the day to go to work (sigh) but every night is unpleasant. Tomorrow we're just staying home from school.
Today she got candy at school for Halloween. She broke into her bag as soon as she got it and the teacher tried to make her wait, saying it was for at home. Apparently E. got pretty upset with the teacher. E. takes candy seriously.
I wasn't thrilled with the school's choice to infect E. with red dye #3 and artificial flavour and blue dye #2 etc.... Thanks, school. Little bags of pretzels and/or raisins would've been better...
We just got And Tango Makes Three from the library. Sniffle! So sweet!

Twelve days
It's been a long 12 days... perhaps it was H1N1.
Today I took E. to a coffee shop for dinner, because I had a coupon for a free bagel egg sandwich, and I figured I'd get her a free meal. It turns out it was buy one get one free so I had to spring for the $5 for another one. Then E. ripped my $8 tights with her sneaker velcro. And the lettuce on the bagel had gone bad. So 'free' turned into a $13, not very nice meal. It was kind of that day overall!
